Clear communication, practical recommendations and a behaviour-first approach.
I work with dog owners whose cases need more than ordinary training and I am happy to work alongside veterinary professionals, trainers and organisations where clear referral and communication will help the dog and owner.
REFERRALS
When a client needs more than ordinary training
Behaviour cases often sit across several areas at once: learning history, environment, arousal, fear, pain or discomfort, owner handling and day-to-day management. A referral gives me space to assess that wider picture and give the owner a practical way forward rather than simply adding more cues.
WHAT I CAN PROVIDE
Useful input around the case
The exact route depends on the dog and the reason for referral.
ASSESSMENT
Behaviour consultation
A detailed assessment of the behaviour, history, context and immediate management needs.
Behaviour support works best when the professionals around the case are communicating.
Where health may be contributing, I will direct the owner back to their vet rather than trying to train around a possible medical problem. With the client’s permission, I can provide clear written information so relevant professionals understand what has been assessed and what is being recommended.
A USEFUL REFERRAL
A little context makes the handover easier
If you are referring a client, it is helpful to include the reason for referral and any relevant information the owner has agreed can be shared. I will still take a full history directly from the owner before making recommendations.
