Activdogs is now Steven Symonds — Dog Behaviour & Training. A name that better reflects the work I do.

ONE-TO-ONE TRAINING

Reliable Recall

More freedom without holding your breath every time the lead comes off.

Recall is not about shouting louder. It is about creating a long history in which returning to you is worth doing — then protecting that history as the environment becomes more interesting.

THE JOURNEY

From managing every possibility to gradually earning more freedom.

The goal is not an instant promise that your dog will come back from anything. It is a systematic progression: strengthen the relationship with the cue, use a long line to keep the training safe, add distraction deliberately, and let your dog’s consistency tell us when more freedom is appropriate.

01

Build the return

Engagement, voluntary check-ins and a clear recall cue begin to make coming back valuable.

02

Add movement

Long-line work, direction changes and manageable distractions make the pattern stronger.

03

Earn freedom

Practise in the real world and decide when the evidence says your dog is ready for more.

WHAT WE WILL WORK ON

The habits that make a recall reliable

Engagement and check-ins · a clear recall cue · long-line handling · direction changes · rewarding the return · whistle recall where useful · distraction progression · knowing when your dog is and is not ready for more freedom.

BETWEEN SESSIONS

You will know what to practise next.

Three supporting recall worksheets give you a clear sequence to follow between appointments, so the learning does not stop when the session ends.
